When asked what issues limit the effectiveness of their file transfer systems, the top two across all industries remain the same as two years ago when we surveyed. 1. Security 2. Growth in file volume and size. But replacing complexity at number three is Transfer speed and efficiency.

When asked specifically about FTP transfers, the average percent that do not complete successfully is 6.6%. And the average time to troubleshoot and resolve an FTP exception was 28 minutes.

As MFT's definition continues to expand, we asked respondents to estimate the number of transfers that were allocated between the following three categories: System-Centric 41.35%, Community-Centric 29.46%, and Person-Centric 29.19%

The top three approaches business users took to transferring large files are email, cloud based service, and an IT provided tool (like FTP). Users were just as likely to turn to non-secure, non-governed methods of email and cloud, than the tools provided by IT.
